Parish Education

Our Sunday school begins at 9:00 a.m. every Sunday morning in our old schoolhouse.  Depending on the activities planned, we might meet in the Family Life Center.  We start with an opening that focuses on a story from the Bible. We recognize those with birthdays and we might sing a song or two.  Parents and grandparents are welcome.  The students then split into their age groups for more study and maybe a craft.

In the early fall, our 3rd grade students are presented with a Bible from the congregation, during  Sunday morning worship.

Before Easter, our students decorate paper grocery bags that are then given out to be filled with groceries for Bread Partners.  The filled bags are brought back on Easter Sunday and placed at the foot of the large Easter cross in front of the church.

Vacation Bible Sunday is held during the summer, usually in the evenings.  During the 2013 VBS, the students learned about the threat of malaria in our companion synod, Central African Republic, and raised money for mosquito nets.

The Sunday school traditionally takes part in the Christmas Eve service.  Their parts vary from year to year but are always a special part of the church year for St. James.
